Mesa, Arizona – The Marymount California University Men's Soccer Team opened up their Cal Pac Conference play on the road on Friday night against The Benedictine University at Mesa Redhawks. The Mariners came away with the 3-0 win, starting their conference play off with a victory.
The Mariners dominated the majority of the possession with 16 shots to Benedictine Mesa's 7. The first shot that found the back of the net was scored by MCU's Enrique Amador (SR/Barcelona, Spain) in the 22nd minute of the match. This would be the lone goal of the first half, leading the teams into half-time with a score of 1-0.
A foul against the Redhawks in the second half would lead to a free kick that was capitalized on by MCU's Guillermo Chinchilla (SR/Barcelona, Spain) at the 65th minute mark. Five minutes later, Josep Morego (SR/Barcelona, Spain) would score a goal of his own, capping the score off at the final 3-0 win for The Mariners.
With the help of his strong defensive line, goalkeeper Ramon Garcia (JR) earned his second shutout of the season. The nationally ranked Mariners improve to a 4-2-2 record on the season, and return to action this Sunday afternoon at Embry-Riddle University (AZ).
