Torrance, Calif. – The Marymount California Men's Soccer Team had a victorious game on their home field Saturday morning, defeating the Southern Oregon University Raiders by a score of 1-0.
The Raiders opened the game with the first opportunity during in the 6th minute, but the Mariners would take the remainder of possession and scoring chances in the first half. MCU's offense put the pressure on, forcing SOU's defense to hold strong, which led both teams into half-time at an even 0-0 score.
The Mariners started the second half by putting pressure on the Raider defense. Avoiding multiple defenders Josep Morego (SR/Barcelona, Spain), scored the lone goal of the game (unassisted) at the 66:54 minute mark. The clock eventually ticked down, and the game was sealed with a final score of 1-0.
The result earned goalkeeper, Ramon Garcia (JR), his first shutout of the season, and improved the Mariners' record to 2-2-1 on the season. When asked about his thoughts on the game, Head Coach Mark Hervin said, "I'm pleased with the result, especially against such a well-organized opponent."
MCU will be back in action on their home field at El Camino College on Monday, September 11th against 17th ranked Vanguard University. Kickoff will begin at 1:00pm. To view the full schedule, please click here
