Mesa, Ariz. -- It didn't seem like either the Benedictine University at Mesa or the Marymount California Mariners were going to stop scoring runs on Friday afternoon. The Mariners kept putting runs on the board but the Redhawks fought for the win, 20-10 to start the three-game set in the final Cal Pac series at Gene Autry Park.
Marymount kicked off the scoring in the first inning with two runs, John (JJ) Muratore and Ted Dilts. BenU at Mesa answered right back with three runs of their own.
Again, Marymount put up three runs in the second frame with hits from Cole Henderson and Eric Fields. The bases were cleared when Andrew Banuelos hit a double to deep center field earning a three-run RBI to take the lead 5-3. But the Redhawks would respond once more, hanging six runs on the Mariners in the bottom of the second inning.
The battle continued through the fourth inning where the Mariners would put one on the board in the third and four more in the fourth, highlighted by doubles from Eric Fields and Randy Rubio in the fourth. But that would be all they could muster, as BenU scored four in the fourth and another four in the seventh to collect the win.
The Mariner offense was led by Ted Dilts with three hits and three RBI's and doubles from Eric Fields, Aiden Gutierrez, Randy Rubio and Andrew Banuelos, contribuiting to 13 hits in the game.
The Mariners face the Redhawks in their final two games of the regular season on Saturday with the first game beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Gene Autry Park.
