The California Pacific Conference announces the final Players of the Week in softball for the 2017 season.
SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sonia Escalera of Marymount California closed out the regular season with a strong performance against Benedictine-Mesa. The Mariners took two out of three from the Redhawks, led by the sophomore catcher's 6-for-9 effort at the plate.
The Harbor City, Calif., native scored twice and drove in four runs to guide her team to the #2 slot in the postseason tournament. Escalera's outstanding work behind the plate throughout the season played a key role in the Mariners reaching the postseason for the first time in program history.
SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK
Marymount California pitcher Kaylee Wallingford registered two of the three Mariners wins in a season-ending series with Benedictine-Mesa. Needing to win the series in order to claim the second seed in the Cal Pac Championship tournament, the sophomore hurler tossed two complete games and helped her own cause with two hit in the season finale.
The Glendora, Calif., native scattered 13 hits in her two outings, but only four earned runs while she struck out six.
