COSTA MESA, Calif. - After dropping one to Simpson keeping MCU tied at the top of the Cal Pac, the Mariners traveled south for a non-conference match-up against Vanguard University Lions. The Mariners defeated the Pride 15-10 in their first game a month ago but this second game went in favor of the Lions 19-0.
The Mariners were up to bat first in this one, but only mustered a single hit before striking out. The Lions then capitalized on this initial defensive success, by scoring two runs in the bottom of the first.
The second inning, the Lion bats were on fire scoring seven more off seven hits. The trend would continue with the Lions scoring another eight runs in the final five innings.
MCU only managed six hits in the game versus Vanguard's twenty-three.
The Mariners will rest up as they prepare for another critical three conference games. The men will travel to Antelope Valley to take on University of Antelope Valley, who is also in this three-way tie with Marymount California and Benedictine University at Mesa.
The first game of the double-header is scheduled for 11am on Friday.
